Why PowerSync Pro?

Migrate and synchronise your Active Directory domains with ease

PowerSyncPro is a robust tool crafted to seamlessly migrate and synchronise users, groups, and contacts across directories, making it a must-have for all Windows synchronisation projects. It eliminates the need for complex scripts and constant manual oversight, providing an easier alternative to Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM). By utilising straightforward import, sync, and export terminology, PowerSyncPro simplifies operations and is especially valuable in domain migration projects such as Active Directory (AD) domain migrations.

PowerSyncPro DirSync

PowerSyncPro DirSync is an advanced active directory synchronisation tool that simplifies complex directory tasks resulting from mergers, acquisitions, consolidations, or divestitures. It serves as a powerful, user-friendly alternative to Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM), streamlining synchronisation of users, groups, and contacts across multiple AD domains and Azure AD environments.

PowerSyncPro Migration Agent

The PowerSyncPro Migration Agent is engineered to ease directory migration challenges. It offers a comprehensive solution that simplifies workstation migrations while minimising disruption to your team’s productivity. This reliable tool ensures a smooth transition with minimal impact on your operations.

The benefits of PowerSyncPro

PowerSyncPro not only excels in its core functionality, but also addresses additional needs for directory synchronisation across various scenarios. Its capabilities extend well beyond standard synchronisation tasks, providing significant benefits to your organisation.

PowerSyncPro streamlines complex migration projects, including tenant-to-tenant transitions, making even the most intricate processes effortless and cost-effective.

The tool maintains control over target objects, minimising errors and enhancing synchronisation reliability. It empowers users and administrators by keeping them informed and in control while effectively managing deletions and updates across mail platforms.

PowerSyncPro also creates a unified Global Address List (GAL) for seamless coexistence between email systems and simplifies Office 365 integration with a single source domain. For Active Directory consolidation or divestiture, it ensures a smooth transition and prevents orphaned objects, keeping your directory clean and organised.

Common use cases for PowerSyncPro:

  • AD migrations: when merging or acquiring companies with large user bases.
  • Tenant-to-Tenant migrations: for moving domains between tenants.
  • Office 365 migrations: integrating multiple Active Directories into a single Azure AD.
  • Unified GAL creation: connecting different email systems or companies.

How it works

PowerSyncPro operates with a metaverse design, importing data from various directories into a central database. It then synchronises changes across target directories. The tool allows you to make synchronisation decisions based on source or target directory data and merge data from additional sources, which is crucial for managing Windows systems, SIDs, and following a structured domain migration checklist.

Key features

PowerSyncPro offers an array of powerful features to enhance your directory synchronisation:

  • Synchronise hundreds of thousands of users, contacts, and groups across any number of Active Directory domains.
  • Bidirectional password synchronisation.
  • Synchronise SID history for seamless user and workstation migrations.
  • Scope source connectors, map attributes, and manage target objects efficiently.
  • Delete target objects when they are out of scope.
  • Perform complex attribute transformations during synchronisation.
  • Merge data from multiple AD directories or SQL servers into a target AD.
  • Enjoy an open, flexible, and scalable architecture.

Pre-requisites

To effectively use PowerSyncPro, ensure you have the following:

  • A supported version of Microsoft Windows Server.
  • A supported version of Microsoft SQL Server for the database (SQL Express for smaller installations).
  • Service accounts for each Active Directory domain.
  • Domain Controllers with a functional level of 2003 or later.
  • Proper network connectivity with firewall ports open (TCP 389, TCP 135, RPC to Active Directory, and TCP 443 to Azure).
  • Application Registration for each Azure Active Directory tenant.

MIM vs PowerSyncPro

Microsoft Identity Manager (MIM) is designed for synchronising digital identity data on on-premises servers. As much of its functionality shifts to Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), it’s clear that MIM and Azure AD don’t fully overlap. PowerSyncPro bridges this gap by offering comprehensive functionality that addresses the needs not fully covered by either MIM or Azure AD.

Replacement options: as MIM approaches its End of Life (EOL), exploring alternatives becomes crucial. While MIM’s functionality is transitioning to the cloud, several tools can partially or fully replace or complement its capabilities.

What-If Report

A What-If report is essential for anticipating the impact of changes before implementation. This is particularly vital during large-scale migrations, where policy changes can significantly alter numerous objects. A common application is assessing the effects of migrating objects from one Active Directory domain to another.
